Basaal, where Daan van Munster runs the kitchen, delivers on flavour, explosions of deep, intense and soul-nourishing flavours. It is very hard to describe the extend to which Basaal's food hits home. It gives a deep satisfaction of the soul. A feeling of comfort, of nostalgia and in a weirdly relaxing way a sense of connection to nature. Perhaps it is the seasonality of their menu and unwavering dedication to allow the produce to speak for itself. A deep bow to Daan and his team, they are talented beyond words.
In summer they have a beautiful terrace next to the canal, and in winter they serve in their somewhat Scandinavian designed interior. Whichever season you visit them, be sure to order their grilled potato-bread. Order once, twice or three times. There is no way you could ever get enough.
